Located on the east side of midtown Manhattan, Beekman is a small community bounded by Franklin D Roosevelt Drive before the East River on the east, 52nd Street on the north, by 48th Street on the south and First Avenue on the west. This small gem in east Manhattan is known for its ambiance of discreet riches and as a haven of tranquility in the middle of a roaring downtown. This unique characteristic makes it a desirable community to live in, even though it is quite far from the nearest subways on Lexington and Third Avenues and does not have the prestige of Fifth or Park Avenues. Sutton Place lies directly to the north of Beekman, after 52nd Street. Although a little less known than its wealthier neighbor, Beekman residents equally enjoy the clear views of the East River, the serene atmosphere and the functional yet sophisticated living of Manhattan.

The two-block long Beekman Place is the center of the community and home to one of the most prestigious and classic apartment buildings in the district - One Beekman Place whose construction was completed in 1929. Beekman Place is now also home to other high rise apartment buildings and many attractive townhouses such as the Beekman Regent and the Grand Beekman, both on First Avenue at 51st Street, providing luxury living to some of the more notable tenants of Manhattan. The area is a prime real estate location sought after by the upper middle class and business executives and wealthy New Yorkers and also home to some high-level associated people from the United Nations that lies directly to the south.

Beekman has a 1.339 acre park overlooking the waters, the Peter Detmold Park complete with sitting areas and an overpass that crosses FDR Drive with park benches alongside the East River, a perfect place to relax and unwind after a hectic schedule.
